PDL Conference Championships

The Fury Men won't have to travel far for the opening round of the post-season as Ottawa learned Wednesday that they had won the right to host the PDL Conference Championship that will run July 31 - August 1 at the Algonquin College Soccer Complex. The Conference Championship Semi-Finals will run Saturday, July 31 with the first game at 4pm and the second at 7pm. The Fury will play in the 7pm game with their opponent still to be determined. The Conference Championship Final will go Sunday, August 1 at 4pm where the Fury hope to find themselves seeking a spot in the North American Finals. Ottawa will be joined by Reading United AC, Ironbound Express and one of either MPS Portland Phoenix, Albany BWP Highlanders or Long Island Rough Riders. All three games will be broadcast on Rogers TV.

With fifteen of sixteen games in the books the Fury Men have posted another strong regular season currently sporting a 10-2-3 record sitting atop the Northeast Division with a four-point lead over second place Albany. Ottawa will close out the regular season Sunday at 4pm against the Westchester Flames needing a single point to secure their second straight division title. With a 25-game regular season home unbeaten streak (20-0-5) to their credit the Fury are confident going into Sunday's regular season finale and equally as confident for the upcoming Conference Championship. In 2009 the Fury hosted the Ocean City Barons in the Divisional Championship before a packed park at Algonquin College that saw Fury fall 2-1 in extra time in their first-ever playoff game.

"We have turned Algonquin into an absolute fortress in recent seasons. We are VERY tough to beat in Ottawa!" said Ottawa Fury Owner and CEO John Pugh. "It is going to be a great weekend of high quality soccer. Our fans have been integral to our success. Let's pack the park and cheer your Fury onto to the North American finals"

The fortress that is Algonquin has been the Fury's home for 3 season's now where they have compiled a home record of 19-0-4 with their last lost coming in June of 2007 back when they played at Keith Harris Stadium. Over the past two seasons the Fury Men have only surrendered 2 goals at home (one each season) outscoring the opposition 51-2.

In the opening round the Fury are expected to face the Ironbound Express who finished the season 10-3-3, but should Ottawa fail to win the division and Reading United (9-1-4) slip up in their remain two games it could just as easily be a clash of two PDL titans in the opening round. The real season has only just begun!
