Learn to be a referee
If you would like to earn some extra cash and enjoy your soccer experience from a different perspective then you may want to consider becoming a referee.
This year the NCISL are partnering with the RA Soccer League in offering a Class 4 referee course. The RA League is an adult recreational league that play their games in Ottawa.
The course will be held at the RA Centre (Riverside Drive) on 4 evenings in April. At each session you will learn the laws of the game and how to apply them. At the last session the instructor will take you onto the soccer fields at the RA Centre to practice referee and assistant referee signals.
After you have attended the 4 sessions you will be a qualified class 4 referee with the Ontario Soccer Association. This will allow you to officiate in youth games. If you wish to officiate in the NCISL or RA League you will need to take your class 3 exam in the future.
NCISL Director of Referees Andy Weston is organizing the course and he will also assist you throughout the summer. He will also encourage you to take the class 3 exam the following year.
This will be the 5th year that the NCISL has run a class 4 course. So far nearly 50 members of the NCISL have taken the course with about 20 of them progressing to class 3 so that they can officiate in the NCISL.
If you would like further information please contact Andy Weston at referee@ncisl.com
