NCISL announcement regarding the 2020 season

We wanted to write to you to keep you informed of the plans for the 2020 NCISL season.

Since the COVID-19 crisis began in mid March, the Board of Directors have been meeting bi-weekly to plan for all eventualities. After discussing several options, it was decided that the best solution would be to plan for an 8 game schedule. At present, we do not know when the 2020 season would start but the earliest that we can hope for is Monday, July 6th. If needed, we can extend the season until the 3rd week of September.  As you can imagine, we are subject to the decisions of the City of Ottawa and take the guidance of Ontario Soccer into our planning.

Due to the shortened season, the Board of Directors have cancelled the cup competitions and exhibition games for the 2020 season.

With so many unknowns, creating a budget for the 2020 season has been a challenge, however the Board of Directors have settled on a fee of $2285 for each team with a significant discount.

The Board of Directors recognizes that many of our members have been impacted financially due to the crisis so we have decided to subsidize each team's entry fee with a $485 grant from the league reserves. We encourage the team captains to set their team budget appropriately so that those team members who are most impacted financially will receive most of the grant.

After the grant has been applied, each team will need to pay $1800 to enter a team into the NCISL for the 2020 season.

The grant will also be offered to any new team who may like to play in the NCISL so please recommend us to your soccer friends. The NCISL is hoping to attract other 'fair-minded' teams to the 2020 season especially if those teams cannot play in their regular leagues this summer.

Full details of the entry process will be published on the web site next week with team managers and coaches notified by email.

The focus of the Board of Directors will now turn to developing a return to play protocol and we will update you on that process when we know more.

Regards
Tim Baigent
NCISL President
