The NCISL remembers David Norton

The NCISL is saddened to learn of the passing of our former President Dr. David Norton.

Dave was one of the founding organizers of the NCISL when several company soccer teams merged with the Bell Northern Research house league to form what was then known as the Nepean Industrial Soccer League.

Dave was a ballistics expert at General Dynamics Canada (GDC) and he entered the GDC team into the leagues first season in 1980. GDC are still participating in the league today.

Dave was elected to the leagues first Board of Directors in 1980 and he became the second League President in 1985, a position he held until 1995 when he stepped down to become the chairman of the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League.

Dave regularly returned to the NCISL to participate in our tournament with the Sunset Lakers SC. In 2016 Dave retired as chairman of the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League after 20 years service.

The NCISL were proud to nominate Dave as a Life Member of the EODSA in 2017 for his services to soccer in Eastern Ontario. Our nomination was passed unanimously by the members of the EODSA.

"Dave was the driving force in the early years of the NCISL" said current President Tim Baigent."His enthusiasm and passion for the game allowed the NCISL to evolve into the organization that it is today"

Dave was born in Manchester, England in 1943 and was a passionate supporter of Manchester United. "I remember Dave used to regularly wear his United shirt to our board meetings, particularly after they had won a trophy" continued Tim Baigent.

The members of the NCISL send their condolences to Dave's wife Elizabeth, his son Jason and all of his grandchildren.
